NAZRI HOPES MALAYSIANS read at least 20 books a year by next year, and not 2020. But with the number of books (and comic books) being banned by Zahid, maybe there will only be 20 books left to read by 2020. So, fulfilling both Nazri and Zahid's ambitions, KL Alternative Bookfest brings you many interesting titles that are not banned (yet).

Sponsored by Buku Fixi, Art For Grabs joins forces once again with KLAB to present a whole gallery of local independent publishers, plus book launches by Roman Buku, Lejen Press, Dubook, Selut, and SIRD, and a discussion by the intellectual folks at BFM Night School on Books They Forgot To Ban.
Meanwhile, Art For Grabs hosts regular and new vendors, selling lovingly homemade wickedness, including drawings, photos, posters, paintings, crafts, soaps, jams and dolls. Check out our featured NGOs in the loft: Buku Jalanan collaborates with Merdeka KL to discuss book banning and freedom of expression, while SUARAM presents an exhibition and workshops on death in custody. Don't forget to drop by the documentary on female Kuda Kepang dancers, the Bahasa Malaysia play on love letters, the talk on electoral redelineation, and the screening of the ever popular Malaysian Shorts.

KUDA KU TIDAK RELA MATI
Docu screening by Norhayati Kaprawi
Tradition, religion and self identity. The love of culture transcends the gender barrier. The Kuda Kepang ritual performance of the Javanese community in Johor has been traditionally performed only by men. But now they also have girls and women dancing in their midst. The passive spectators have become active warriors. Warriors of culture. Shadows emerge. Soul moves. Hearts beat in one rhythm – dancing with the mystical kuda kepang.
